Vital Records

The Vital Records Office of the Will County Health Department maintains records of Births and Deaths that have occurred in Will County. Records are kept for a period of 10 years only. Records over 10 years old are only available through the County Clerk's Office (815-740-4615) or the State of Illinois (217-782-6553). For additional information regarding vital records, visit the State of Illinois website at www.idph.state.il.us/vitalrecords/index.htm.

In Will County, records are filed by the hospital (for births) and by funeral directors (for deaths) generally within 10 days after the birth or death occurred. We encourage you to come in and review the record for accuracy at the earliest possibility. Forms necessary to establish paternity are available upon request. As required by the State of Illinois, persons requesting records must provide identification. If a driver's license or state ID is not available, it is best to call the office for other identification options. The Will County Health Department maintains records for a period of 10 years only.

The fee for certified copies of birth records is $12.00 for one copy and $4.00 for each additional copy ordered at the same time. Death records cost $14.00 for one and $6.00 for each additional copy ordered at the same time.
