Swimming Facilities & Beaches Program

The Environmental Health Division is the authorized agent for IDPH to conduct inspections at all the 210 public swimming facilities and at the 14 beaches in the County of Will. Applicable state regulations for swimming facilities and beaches can be located on-line at IDPH's web site, www.idph.state.il.us.

Inspections of the beaches and outdoor swimming facilities are conducted every two weeks during the summer months. Samples from these facilities are screened in the Environmental Health Laboratory for bacteria. The laboratory cannot accept samples from private beaches or swimming pools. Beach closures statewide can be viewed on-line at IDPH's web site, www.idph.state.il.us.
