Administration Division

The Will County Health Administration Division provides many functions and is composed of several departments.

Emergency Preparedness and Response

The Will County Health Department is very aware of the need to be prepared for potential Bioterrorism events as well as for all types of public health emergencies. We employ two full-time staff members who work exclusively in our Emergency Preparedness & Response program. Our Emergency Response Coordinator develops emergency plans for Bioterrorism events and Pharmaceutical Stockpile Distribution Plans that will effectively provide medication for the citizens of Will County in the event of an attack with a biological agent. Our Epidemiologist works closely with local hospitals and the medical community in monitoring disease outbreaks and illnesses that could signal a significant public health emergency or Bioterrorism attack. This staff stays current on all events related to national Bioterrorism policy and also works closely with the Will County Emergency Management Agency to coordinate disaster response efforts should they occur. In support of our Emergency Preparedness & Response staff, we have also employed contractual program staff that lends expertise in a variety of emergency related planning areas. And, to enhance our response efforts a 25-member Emergency Response Team was created from within our Health Department Divisions.

Epidemiology and Communicable Disease

The mission of the Epidemiology and Communicable Disease Program is to protect and promote the health of Will County residents. This is accomplished through the operation of public health surveillance, field investigations, health assessments, and epidemiologic studies. Information from these activities is provided in a timely fashion to the Department, other agencies, researchers, and the public for identifying Will County residents at increased health risk, understanding the causes and recommending changes to prevent disease and injury.

Human Resources

All employment applications must be completed and signed. It is the policy of the Department to accept only those applications for which there are current position vacancy announcements (postings). Applications are reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and to be sure the applicant meets the minimum requirements for the position. After the application is reviewed and it is determined that the applicant meets the minimum qualifications, the application is forwarded to the appropriate Division. Because of the diversity of the workforce, each Division conducts their own screening and interviewing process. Prospective candidates will be contacted by Division Management staff for participating in the interview process.

Vital Records

The Vital Records Office of the Will County Health Department maintains records of Births and Deaths that have occurred in Will County. Records are kept for a period of only 10 years.
