Health Department Activates Local Ebola Information Line

New Resource Designed To Keep Area Residents Current On Ebola Developments

JOLIET – The Will County Health Department has added an Ebola Information Line for area residents interested in local Ebola news and developments.

Callers to 815-774-7360 will be presented with two listening options. One option will provide any news concerning local Ebola developments and a list of other resources (like the Health Department website), that residents can access whenever they wish.

Health Department Urges Protection Against Lyme Disease

JOLIET – Lyme Disease is the most prominent of several illnesses carried by ticks, tiny blood-sucking insects that may be no larger than a poppy seed. With the arrival of warmer weather, the Will County Health Department urges hunters, campers, hikers, and others who spend time outdoors to be especially mindful of the risks posed by Lyme Disease and its potential complications. Lyme Disease is known to have infected more than  340,000 Americans since 1982, and scientists believe that total represents only a fraction of the actual incidence.

Pain-free Screening Can Save Lives

JOLIET – Science and  technology are winning the fight against colorectal cancer, but many Americans still avoid simple screening tests that could save their lives.Cancers of the colon and rectum will kill more than 51,000 Americans during 2014, even though several safe and effective screening options can dramatically reduce personal risk. The Will County Health Department urges area residents, especially those  over the age of 50, to consult a health care professional about the need for colorectal cancer screening.
