According to the CDC, in the United States, 1/3 of children and 2/3 of adults are overweight or obese. It is estimated that by 2030, 42% of all adults will be obese, costing an additional $550 billion in health care expenditures. Not only will health care costs add up, sugar sweetened beverages aid in increasing the obesity rates which is linked to many life-threatening diseases like heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Did you know that sugar sweetened beverages are the largest source of added sugars in the American diet? Sugar sweetened beverages are any beverage with added caloric sweetener including soda, any other carbonated soft drinks, fruit drinks, sport drinks, energy drinks, powdered drinks, sweetened tea or coffee drinks & flavor-enhanced water.

Join the fight against sugar-sweetened beverages, by taking part in the Rethink Your Drink Campaign! The Rethink Your Drink Campaign is an educational campaign from the MAPP Chronic Care Action team, in partnership with the Illinois Alliance to Prevent Obesity, to engage Will County citizens and agencies to reduce sugar-sweetened beverage consumption by:

  • Educating the public on the health hazards of consuming sugar-sweetened beverages.
  • Identifying, developing, and activating community advocates to promote the campaign.
  • Developing policies, environmental and systemic changes to reduce or eliminate sugar-sweetened beverages.

The Will County MAPP Collaborative offers the following free materials to assist your efforts to increase awareness of the Rethink Your Drink Campaign in our county.
