REALITY Illinois is a program that was developed by Illinois' teens and funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The REALITY Illinois program encourages teen leaders to advocate for and assist in developing tobacco-free policies in their communities. An advisory panel made up of high school and middle school youth who wish to see a positive difference in their community resulting from a tobacco-free initiative are the driving force behind REALITY Illinois. The teens meet monthly to work on advocacy efforts and assist in developing tobacco-free policies in their communities as outlined by the engaging youth for positive change curriculum that all Will County groups follow. The current initiatives REALITY IL groups are working on are passing a tobacco-free parks ordinance in Wilmington, and removing tobacco advertisements in businesses near schools in the Braidwood and Wilmington communities.
