Health Department Offering Adult and Children’s Flu Vaccines

The Will County Health Department Immunization Clinic is now offering walk-in seasonal flu vaccinations for adults and children at its 1106 Neal Avenue site in Joliet.  Walk-in shots are available each Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Vaccine is also available Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m., and Thursdays from 1-6 p.m.  Friday hours are 8:30 a.m.-noon; no shots are available on the fourth Friday monthly. 
Flu vaccine is also available (by appointment only), at Health Department office locations in Bolingbrook 
(323 Quadrangle), and University Park (44 Town Center).  To schedule an appointment, telephone 815-740-8143. 
The seasonal flu vaccine is available for infants 6-35 months old, for children 3-18 years of age and for adults  19 years of age and older.  The 2012/2013 formulation will provide protection against A/California (H1N1)-like, A/Victoria (H3N2)-like, and B/Wisconsin-like viruses; the three flu strains expected to predominate during the 
2012-2013 flu season. 
Adult flu shots cost $40 and the vaccine for children costs $23.75.  No one will be turned away due to a true inability to pay.  Medicare part B will cover vaccine costs and Medicaid is accepted.  Persons with Medicare should present with their Medicare card, Social Security card, and a Picture ID. 
Pregnant women must present with a written order from their OB physician.  Persons with HMO coverage must go to their primary care physician for the shot to be covered. 
Walk-in pneumonia shots are also available at the Will County Health Department Immunization Clinic in Joliet, and by appointment in Bolingbrook and University Park.  Pneumonia shots cost $75 and are strongly recommended for persons 65 years and older. 
Pneumonia vaccine is also recommended for smokers, persons with asthma, and those with other underlying medical conditions.  Medicare covers pneumonia vaccine costs.
