The new Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace enables residents and small businesses to sign up for a health insurance plan under the Affordable Care Act, which takes effect January 1, 2014. If you need help shopping for the plan that is just right for you, the Health Department can help.
Specially trained Health Department In-Person Counselors are available to help you navigate the new Health Insurance Marketplace. You can schedule an appointment with one of our counselors at your convenience or call them with any questions. Counselors will also be conducting presentations throughout the community to help spread the word about the Affordable Care Act and newly available health insurance options.
Access to affordable insurance will be especially important for the unemployed, self-employed, or workers with jobs that do not provide employer-sponsored health insurance. Existing medical conditions in general will no longer be factored into health insurance premium costs, making insurance more affordable for small business.
